In addition to enabling higher cluster productivity, XC greatly simplifies cluster management and administration, with a suite of monitors, controls, and tools, fully supported and with clear vendor accountability for the complete solution.

XC System Software is based on proven and robust open source components, enhanced by commercial technologies, and includes the Linux operating systems, integrated components necessary for cluster management, and a robust user environment, including HP-MPI and job management.  This turn-key solution for serial and parallel applications is complemented by a robust application development environment and extensive and tested ISV application portfolio.

The HP XC System architecture and the selection of key components are designed to deliver scalable performance and management, and is based on HP’s years of experience and the successful use of these technologies within existing clusters.

Features

  • Rapid provisioning and efficient cluster administration and monitoring – Automated system initialization simplifies start-up, with multicast capability to rapidly install images across the cluster hardware.  Cluster commands, remote console controls and console logging are enabled.

  • Integrated user environment including workload management, development tools, and applications. Platform LSF is integrated in the XC software, as well as HP-MPI and job performance analysis tools.

  • Scalable performance and manageability-- The HP XC Cluster delivers leadership cluster performance and to supports high user workload throughput, demonstrated with its use at multiple sites on the TOP500.org sites.

  • Reliability, availability and serviceability -- XC Clusters have been designed and enhanced to provide high level of RAS. XC clusters undergo functional, volume and stress testing.  Diagnostics are integrated. Availability, a basic cluster attribute, is enhanced with the above mentioned capability to distribute administrative functions across multiple nodes.  HP ServiceGuard and other availability tools can also be utilized to provide failover for these key administrative services.

  • Delivered as a comprehensive, pre-configured, fully supported offering

  • Support for global file system with high performance I/O—The HP XC System Software supports NFS 3 and HP’s Scalable File Share, providing high-performance and high-availability file I/O.

  • HP Scalable Visualization Array (SVA) Software is layered on HP XC System Software and adds the ability to manage visualization applications, allowing users to see and manipulate complex models, and use multi-tile displays, immersive visual caves, as well as remote graphic displays.
