Cluster Management

With flexible configuration designs and integrating industry-standard technologies, HP Cluster Platforms support a range of cluster management options. Choose from HP or partner developed and supported solutions, or go directly to open source cluster projects such as OSCAR or ROCKS to deploy a customized, self-maintained cluster environment.

HP offers the following options for Linux, Windows and HP-UX

»

Linux

XC System Software
HP’s comprehensive, integrated solution provides a rapidly deployable, supported solution utilizing leading cluster technologies from Open Source and commercial developers. XC Software includes the Linux distribution, cluster and resource management, HP-MPI, and worldwide support from HP Services.

HP Cluster Management Utility (CMU)
CMU is an efficient and robust tool for the management of HPC clusters and compute farms.  A simple graphic interface enables centralized console management, monitoring of cluster-wide and node-specific metrics, and software installation.  CMU enables rapid provisioning and management of multiple images, making it ideal for a site with frequent changes to the software configuration across the cluster or on a subset of the cluster.

HP Insight Control Environment for Linux (ICE-Linux)
ICE-Linux enables midsize businesses to affordably manage growing Linux server and cluster environments. Built on the industry-leading HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM) infrastructure, ICE-Linux delivers the flexibility, cost-savings and innovation of open source software in an easy-to-use, secure, HP-supported platform, It simplifies discovery, imaging, monitoring and management for Linux-based HP ProLiant server platforms. With easy-to-read graphical displays, ICE-Linux provides a fully integrated solution for monitoring system and high performance cluster health.

Platform Manager
Platform Manager, formerly available as Scali Manage, is a commercial, standards-based application that delivers total cluster management in today’s heterogeneous and increasingly dynamic IT environment. It addresses each step of the cluster lifecycle, from image- and package-based provisioning to monitoring and fault handling to cluster optimization and expansion.

XC System Software, CMU, ICE-Linux, and Platform Manager are available directly from HP for HP Cluster Platforms and are featured options for HP Cluster Platform Express.

Platform Open Cluster Stack (OCS)

Platform Computing offers OCS, a modular and hybrid stack that transparently integrates open source and commercial software into a single consistent cluster operating environment. OCS is available from Platform for the HP Cluster Platform 3000.

Windows

Microsoft Windows HPC Server (HPCS) 2008 is part of the Unified Cluster Portfolio, with support on HP ProLiant servers, HP BladeSystem, and HP Cluster Platforms. The combination of HPCS and HP enables users to smoothly expand their compute capability and easily tap into the power of clusters. Windows HPCS is designed specifically to make HPC clusters easier to create, integrate and operate within organizations. HPC Server 2008 is officially released from Microsoft, and the list of HP supported platforms can be found at http://www.hp.com/go/windowscert. The HP OEM version will be offered within HP Cluster Platforms as an integrated option later this year.

HP-UX

ClusterPack
This HP-UX-based solution provides a single point of access for cluster system administration, cluster system resource control and monitoring, and distributed workload management. ClusterPack is an option for the Intel Itanium2-based HP Cluster Platform 6000, with Gigabit Ethernet or InfiniBand interconnects, for clusters of up to 128 compute nodes.
